London Christmas Lights Tours – Make a Night of It with OH Cars
The Christmas lights are lovely. Getting there should be part of the fun.
Every December, London puts on quite a show.
The giant angels appear above Regent Street, the designer shops of Mayfair unveil their extraordinary decorations, Harrods lights up Knightsbridge and the West End takes on that wonderful Christmas atmosphere.
It's something everyone should experience at least once.
But here's an idea. Instead of piling onto a crowded train, finding somewhere to park or spending the evening walking from one busy street to another, why not gather your favourite people and enjoy the lights from a private Rolls-Royce or stretch limousine?
At OH Cars, we offer chauffeur-driven London Christmas Lights Tours for families, couples, groups of friends and anyone looking for a different sort of festive evening.
Put on your favourite Christmas playlist, settle into your vehicle, enjoy the refreshments and let us take care of the driving.
Your Christmas evening includes
- A private chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce or limousine
- A choice of one-hour or three-hour hire
- Drinks and refreshments for your group
- Bluetooth music facilities, where supported by the vehicle
- Balloons or banners for special celebrations, if requested when booking
- Help from your chauffeur with photographs at suitable stopping points
- Collection from home or an agreed Central London location
- Optional Santa hats and reindeer headbands for an additional charge
Our London Christmas Lights Tour prices
You don't need to book an expensive sightseeing package to enjoy a memorable Christmas outing. We offer straightforward vehicle prices, so you know what you're paying before making arrangements.
Your Christmas ride| 1 hour| 3 hours
Rolls-Royce Phantom or Ghost Series 2| £395| £550
Gen 2 Baby Bentley – up to 8 passengers| £350| £495
White Hummer H2 limousine – up to 16 passengers| £450| £650
Prices are for the vehicle, not each passenger.
That means eight friends sharing the Baby Bentley for an hour could pay just £43.75 each. Fill all sixteen seats in the Hummer and the one-hour price works out at approximately £28.13 per person.
Our standard packages include your chauffeur, drinks and refreshments. Balloons or banners can be arranged where required; please mention them when booking.
We can also quote for a simpler dry-hire package, which may cost less if you don't need the usual refreshments or extras.
Prices depend on the agreed pickup arrangements, route and availability. Tell us where you'd like to start and finish, and we'll confirm the cost.
So, what can you expect to see?
One of the best things about Christmas in London is that the decorations aren't all in one place.
Some of the finest sights are above the roads. Others are on the front of famous buildings, in shop windows or around London's best-known landmarks.
We know the streets well, and over the years we've learnt that a good Christmas lights tour isn't about racing around trying to tick off every attraction.
It's about finding a sensible route, enjoying what's around you and having enough time to appreciate the experience.
Here are some of the places we particularly enjoy showing our passengers.
Regent Street – you simply have to see the angels
There are Christmas decorations, and then there are the Regent Street angels.
These enormous illuminated figures hang high above the road, stretching into the distance and making the whole street look extraordinary.
They're especially impressive from inside a limousine, where everyone can look up and enjoy the display together.
It's one of those moments when the conversation stops for a few seconds because everybody is looking out of the window.
Regent Street is a firm favourite on our Christmas tours, and we try to include it whenever the route allows.
New Bond Street – where the shops put on their own Christmas competition
If you've never seen New Bond Street at Christmas, you're in for a treat.
Forget ordinary window dressing. This is where some of the world's biggest luxury brands seem to compete over who can produce the most spectacular festive display.
Dior, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren and their neighbours put tremendous effort into their shopfronts. Some are elegant, others wonderfully extravagant, but together they make the street a sight worth seeing.
A slow drive through New Bond Street, when access and traffic allow, can be one of the most enjoyable parts of the evening.
We particularly love this stretch in a Rolls-Royce. Somehow, the car and the surroundings suit each other perfectly.
Harrods and Knightsbridge – one of London's great Christmas sights
The Harrods building is impressive at any time of year.
At Christmas, with its famous façade illuminated, it's something else altogether.
As we travel through Knightsbridge, passengers often find themselves reaching for their phones to take photographs through the windows.
And it's not just Harrods. The surrounding streets, beautiful buildings and festive shopfronts all contribute to the atmosphere.
For many visitors, this is the London they've seen in films and Christmas advertisements. Seeing it for yourself is much better.
Park Lane – big hotels, beautiful decorations and a glimpse of Winter Wonderland
Park Lane has a charm of its own during December.
The grand hotels put considerable effort into their festive decorations, and their beautifully lit entrances look especially impressive in the evening.
Then there's Hyde Park.
As we pass, the bright lights and colourful attractions of Winter Wonderland provide a completely different spectacle.
Children tend to love this part. There's something exciting about seeing the fairground glowing in the distance while you're travelling through London in a limousine.
Oxford Street – when the traffic plays along
Oxford Street is another well-known Christmas destination, and its illuminations add to the atmosphere of the West End.
We enjoy including it when practical, but December traffic can be difficult and vehicle access is restricted in places.
Rather than spend a large part of your booking sitting in a queue, your chauffeur may suggest another route.
Sometimes the best way to enjoy London's lights is to know which streets to avoid.
Carnaby Street – time to get out and have a look
Carnaby Street is a little different because much of the attraction is best enjoyed on foot.
Its Christmas decorations are often imaginative, colourful and full of character.
As it's pedestrianised, we can't drive the limousine through the displays. But if a suitable nearby stopping or parking place is available, we may be able to arrange a short break.
It's a good opportunity to stretch your legs, take some photographs, have a wander and use nearby toilet facilities if needed.
This sort of stop works particularly well on a three-hour booking, when there's a little more time to enjoy the evening.
Trafalgar Square – a proper London Christmas
No Christmas outing around Central London feels quite complete without seeing Trafalgar Square.
The traditional Christmas tree, the National Gallery and the historic buildings surrounding the square give it a completely different atmosphere from the fashionable shopping streets.
We usually aim to take a spin around the square as part of the journey.
It's a lovely moment, particularly for families who want to show younger children some of London's most recognisable sights.
The London Eye – let's get a photograph
We love finishing a memorable stretch of sightseeing with a photograph near the London Eye.
With the illuminated wheel and the Thames in the background, it's a wonderful place to capture the evening.
Your chauffeur will be happy to help take group photographs where there is a safe and lawful place to stop.
Whether it's a family photograph, a couple beside their Rolls-Royce or sixteen friends posing near their Hummer, these are often the pictures people enjoy looking back on long after Christmas has passed.
Please remember: The places above are possible tour highlights, not a promise that every street and stop can be covered in every booking. Routes depend on traffic, restrictions, vehicle size and the time available.

One hour or three? Here's what we'd suggest.
One hour – a lovely little Christmas treat
If you're already in Central London, an hour can be a great way to enjoy some of the festive atmosphere.
Perhaps you've been shopping, you're visiting London for the day, or you want to surprise the children with something special before heading home.
Meet your chauffeur at an agreed location, choose your music and enjoy a selection of Christmas sights.
The important thing is to keep expectations realistic. One hour isn't enough to cover the entire West End, especially in December.
But with the right starting point and a sensible route, it can still be a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Three hours – the one we'd recommend for a proper evening out
If you're planning this as a family occasion or a get-together with friends, we'd recommend the three-hour option.
It gives us more flexibility with the route and more opportunity to enjoy different parts of London.
You may also have time for a short walk, photographs or a stop at an agreed location, provided traffic and parking arrangements allow.
And, of course, there's more time to enjoy being together in the vehicle.
For many customers, that's half the fun.
A little advice from people who drive around London for a living
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are usually your best bet.
Christmas weekends in Central London can be extremely busy. There are shoppers, tourists, office parties, theatre-goers and plenty of other people who have had exactly the same idea as you.
Friday and Saturday evenings can be particularly slow-moving.
If you have a choice, we'd suggest booking earlier in the week.
We also recommend enjoying the lights from around 7.30 pm onwards. By then, some of the earlier evening traffic has eased and the decorations look fantastic against the dark sky.
If you're being collected from home, 6.30 pm can be a sensible pickup time, depending on where you live.
Naturally, someone travelling from South London will have a different journey from someone being collected much further away.
We'll discuss the timings with you before confirming the booking.
Our advice is simple: don't try to cram too much into the evening. A relaxed tour is much more enjoyable than spending the whole time watching the clock.

Which car should you choose?
The Hummer H2 – get the whole gang together
There's something about a white stretch Hummer arriving outside your house that immediately gets everyone excited.
Our Hummer H2 accommodates up to sixteen passengers, making it a fantastic choice for larger families, groups of friends and Christmas celebrations.
Everyone can travel together, put on their favourite music and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
It's also a surprisingly affordable way to make an evening feel special when the cost is shared across a full group.
For a family Christmas surprise or a lively evening with friends, the Hummer is hard to beat.
Gen 2 Baby Bentley – just the right size for a smaller group
If there are six, seven or eight of you, our Gen 2 Baby Bentley limousine could be just what you're looking for.
It's smart, comfortable and has the sort of sociable interior that makes a group outing enjoyable.
You can chat, listen to music, laugh together and admire the Christmas lights as you travel.
It's especially popular for family celebrations, birthdays and evenings when friends want to do something a little different.
Rolls-Royce Phantom – make someone feel truly special
Some people have always dreamed of travelling in a Rolls-Royce.
Christmas is a wonderful excuse to make that dream come true.
Our Phantom Series 2 is a magnificent car, with an unmistakable presence and an interior designed for comfort.
Imagine surprising your partner, parents or someone special with an evening in London, collected in a beautiful Rolls-Royce and driven past the city's famous Christmas decorations.
It doesn't need to be a wedding or a major anniversary to justify a little luxury.
Sometimes it's simply nice to do something special.
Rolls-Royce Ghost – a beautifully relaxed way to see London
If you prefer something a little more understated, the Ghost Series 2 is another excellent choice.
Elegant, comfortable and wonderfully refined, it's ideal for couples or smaller parties who want to enjoy the lights in peaceful surroundings.
Put on some Christmas music, settle back and enjoy the city without the usual hassle of driving through it yourself.
We also have other luxury vehicles available for customers looking for something different. Just ask.

Christmas music, drinks and a few extra surprises
We want the journey to feel like part of your Christmas celebration, not just transport between locations.
That's why our standard packages include drinks and refreshments.
You can also enjoy your own music through the vehicle's Bluetooth facilities, where supported.
Whether your playlist is full of traditional carols, Mariah Carey, Wham! or songs the children have insisted on hearing for the fiftieth time, it's your evening.
Celebrating a December birthday or arranging a surprise?
Tell us when you book. We can arrange balloons or banners where required, subject to the agreed arrangements.
We can also supply Santa hats or reindeer headbands for an additional charge.
They might seem like small things, but they make for brilliant photographs, particularly when the whole group joins in.
And if you simply want the vehicle and chauffeur without the usual extras, ask us about a dry-hire price.
Being collected from home makes it even better
For children especially, the surprise can begin before the tour has even started.
Imagine them looking out of the front window and seeing a huge white Hummer limousine pull up outside.
Or opening the door to find a beautiful Rolls-Royce waiting to take the family into London.
There's time for a few photographs, everyone gets settled and the evening begins.
We can also arrange collection from an agreed Central London location if you're already in town.
For one-hour tours, starting centrally will generally give you more time among the lights. Home collections are often better suited to a longer booking, depending on the address and journey time.
We'll agree the collection and finish arrangements with you beforehand.
Christmas isn't just for the children
Of course, children love the lights.
But we've found that adults can enjoy the occasion just as much.
It might be a couple looking for a romantic evening, a group of friends catching up before Christmas, or a family wanting to treat grandparents to something they wouldn't normally arrange for themselves.
It could even be a birthday celebration with a Christmas twist.
And unlike a traditional sightseeing tour, you're spending the evening with your own group, enjoying the experience at your own pace within the agreed hire time.
No strangers sharing your vehicle. No fixed commentary to listen to. Just a lovely evening together.
A few things worth knowing before you book
Central London is unpredictable in December. Even a route that looks straightforward on a map can take much longer than expected.
Our chauffeurs will plan the journey with this in mind, but traffic, road closures and stopping restrictions can affect what we can do.
Large limousines also have different access requirements from ordinary cars, so a Hummer route may not be identical to a Rolls-Royce route.
If you'd like to get out for photographs or visit Carnaby Street, let us know in advance. We'll explain what's practical for your chosen booking.
Children are welcome, although suitable seating and child-restraint arrangements must be agreed beforehand.
And if there's a particular vehicle or December date you have your heart set on, booking early is always sensible.
